Virgin Australia allows blocking of neighboring seats

Virgin Australia recently launched a thoughtful new service to improve passenger comfort during their travel on its flights. This is a convenient solution that allows passengers to purchase an empty seat next to theirs. According to the airline, this very convenient service increases passenger comfort during the flight and is offered at an affordable price.

Service available on eight routes only

Initially, Virgin Australia will offer this “paid” option on eight routes, namely:

– Flights connecting Melbourne to Adelaide, Perth, Sydney, and Bali
– Flights connecting Brisbane to Cairns, Sydney, and Samoa
– Flights connecting Sydney to Perth

According to the Australian airline, “this service may be extended to several other routes, depending on passenger demand.”

So, if you want to travel by plane without being bothered by a noisy neighbor or one who tends to sprawl on top of you, Virgin Australia invites you to book its “Seatless Seat” service. The offer, available in economy class only, starts at AU$30 on short-haul flights and AU$50 on medium- and long-haul flights.

Passengers can purchase an empty seat next to their original seat through an auction system. This can be requested at the time of booking (up to 48 hours before departure).
