The check-in is a mandatory step before boarding your Jetstar flight. To simplify the passenger experience, the Australian airline offers its passengers the option of checking in online or at the airport.
Preparing your check-in properly helps avoid queues, document issues, and, most importantly, the risk of missing your flight. However, the rules and times depend on the type of flight (domestic or international), the specific Jetstar Group airline (Jetstar Airways JQ or Jetstar Japan GK) and the departure airport.
Jetstar suggests that checking in online is the way to save time at the airport. It allows passengers to confirm their presence on the flight, verify their personal information, select or confirm their travel options and obtain their boarding pass before going to the airport.
To check in online, passengers generally need:
– Their Jetstar booking reference;
– The name used when booking;
– Your passport or travel information for certain international flights.
Go to Jetstar.com and check in for your flight in one minute.
After check-in:
– Passengers traveling with carry-on baggage only can usually proceed directly to security and then to the boarding gate;
– Passengers with checked baggage must drop off their bags at the bag drop counter before the baggage drop-off service closes.
Jetstar Online Check-in Time Limit (deadline):
Jetstar passengers also have to check in by a deadline, which is different for each route. Jetstar has different deadlines depending on the type of flight.
Web Check-in:
|
Flight type |
Opening check-in ( before departure) | Deadline ( before departure) |
| Domestic flight and flight to New Zealand | 48 hours |
40 min |
|
Domestic flights in Japan |
48 hours | 35 min |
| International flights | 48 hours |
2 hours |
Airport Check-in:
|
Flight type |
Opening check-in ( before departure) |
Deadline ( before departure) |
|
Domestic flight |
2 hours | 40 min |
| International flight | 3 hours |
1 hour |
It is advisable not to wait until the last minute: an unstable internet connection, a document issue, or a booking change may prevent online check-in.
Bag Drop Deadline
Even after successful online check-in, passengers with checked baggage must drop off their luggage before the baggage service closes. The general deadlines are:
- 40 minutes before departure for many Jetstar domestic flights from a domestic terminal;
- 60 minutes before departure for many international flights or flights departing from an international terminal.
A passenger arriving after this deadline may not be able to check their baggage, even if they already have a boarding pass.
Even after successful online check-in, it is recommended to arrive early, especially:
– during school holidays;
– during peak travel periods;
– for international flights requiring additional security checks.
Bags must be dropped off before the bag drop service closes. Passengers must arrive at the boarding gate before it closes;
Being late to the gate may result in denied boarding and forfeiture of the ticket, subject to applicable conditions.
Jetstar Mobile Boarding Pass
Jetstar offers a digital boarding pass that allows travelers to use their smartphone instead of a paper ticket.
Mobile boarding passes can be used on:
– Jetstar Airways (JQ) domestic flights in Australia and New Zealand;
– Select Jetstar Airways international flights;
– Jetstar Japan (GK) domestic flights.
After check-in, passengers typically receive a link via SMS or email to open their boarding pass. This can then be saved to:
– Apple Wallet on iPhone;
– Google Wallet or a compatible app on Android.
Who cannot use Jetstar online check-in?
Not all passengers are able to Jetstar check in online service. In certain situations, travelers must check in directly at the airport.
The main exceptions include:
- Passengers traveling with an infant (except for certain exceptions on applicable domestic flights);
- Travel to or from the United States;
- Jetstar group bookings;
- Passengers traveling with a service dog;
- Travelers requiring an extra seat;
- Passengers who are hearing or visually impaired in certain cases;
- Bookings with an outstanding balance;
- Domestic flights departing from an international terminal.
In addition, some passengers may successfully check in online but not immediately receive their boarding pass. Jetstar may then request a check at the airport, particularly to check a visa, travel documents or certain entry requirements for the destination country.
Jetstar Airport Check-in:
Passengers without access to Jetstar online check-in must check in at the airport.
– Jetstar Self-Service Kiosk Check-in:

Jetstar provides self-service kiosks at several airports, allowing passengers to print their boarding pass and baggage tags on-site.
In Australia, Jetstar kiosks are available at the following airports:
- Melbourne (Tullamarine)
- Sydney

- The gate may close approximately 20 minutes before departure for some domestic Jetstar flights;
- Some international flights have stricter closing times depending on the airport and the operating airline.
