Dreaming of jetting off to Australia, New Zealand, or Asia-Pacific without breaking the bank or overcomplicating things? With Jetstar, everything happens in just a few clicks: booking online, managing your trip from your smartphone, changing your flights independently, paying with your loyalty points… The airline has designed its customer journey so that every step, from searching for a ticket to boarding, is as simple and fast as possible. Here’s everything you need to know to book smart and travel at your own pace with Jetstar:
Book in just a few minutes on jetstar.com
No need to spend hours comparing dozens of tabs: on the official jetstar.com website, simply enter your route, your dates, and the number of passengers to instantly see available fares. Choose the fare that suits you, add useful options with one click (checked baggage, seat, meal, insurance), pay online, and your confirmation arrives directly in your inbox.
The habit to adopt: book early and directly online. The best fares sell out fast, and adding your options at the time of booking (baggage, seat) is always cheaper than buying them at the airport.
The Jetstar app
The Jetstar mobile app lets you search for and book flights, check in, generate your digital boarding pass, and view your trip details in real time, all while customizing your booking directly from your smartphone. In other words, once the app is installed, you’ll barely need anything else to travel:
– Book from wherever you are: on your commute, between two meetings, or from your couch, your next flight is just a thumb-tap away.
– Check in within seconds and get your digital boarding pass, with no need to print it.
– Track your flight in real time: schedules, boarding gate changes, possible delays — everything updates instantly.
– Manage your booking at any time: adding baggage, selecting a seat, updating your passenger information.
– Many travelers highlight just how convenient the app is, especially when taking several connecting flights. A travel companion not to be overlooked, free to download from the App Store or Google Play before you depart.
Practical tip: turn on app notifications. You’ll be the first to know about any schedule or gate changes, giving you real peace of mind on departure day.
How do you book a Jetstar flight?
The typical process includes the following steps:
1. Choose your route: departure city, arrival city, travel dates (one-way or round-trip), and number of passengers.
2. Select your flight and fare: Jetstar offers several fare families (Starter, Starter Plus, Starter Max, or equivalents depending on the market), which include increasing levels of service (baggage, flexibility, seat selection).
3. Add options: checked baggage, extra legroom seats, in-flight meals, travel insurance, car rental…
4. Enter passenger information: first and last name as shown on your passport or ID card, date of birth and contact details.
5. Make payment: credit card, and sometimes PayPal or other payment methods depending on the country of booking.
6. Receive your confirmation: a confirmation email with your booking reference (PNR) is sent to you, keep it somewhere safe.
Change your booking independently
A scheduling conflict, a change of plans, a sudden urge to extend your stay? There’s no need to call Jetstar customer service or visit an agency. Depending on your fare conditions, you can generally change your booking directly online, in your “Manage My Booking” area. The type of change available depends on your situation and the fare originally selected, so it’s recommended to check these conditions at the time of booking.
Any change made to a booking may incur fees, as well as a possible fare difference to be paid.
What you can generally adjust online:
– Your flight date or time
– Your baggage options
– Your seat
– Contact or passenger information (in some cases)
Important: always keep your booking reference (PNR) and the exact name used at the time of booking close at hand. These are the only two pieces of information needed to access your booking within seconds.
Pay for your booking however you like: cash, points, or both
This is arguably one of Jetstar’s lesser-known yet most appealing advantages: total flexibility in payment methods. With this airline, you can pay using:
• Credit/debit cards: VISA, Mastercard, American Express, debit cards
• PayPal
• UnionPay
• PayID
• Apple Pay and Google Pay
• Afterpay
• Jetstar vouchers and gift cards
• Qantas Frequent Flyer Points
Tip: you can earn extra Qantas Points by paying with a credit card. It’s also possible to combine several payment methods on a single booking, for example a credit card together with a redemption of Qantas Points.
Paying with your Qantas Points
If you’re a Qantas Frequent Flyer member, you can use your Qantas Points to book Jetstar Reward Seats and add extras on the website.
Points Plus Pay: the best of both worlds
With the Points Plus Pay option, you can freely choose the split between the number of points and the amount of money you’d like to use to pay for your booking, on both the website and the app. Just adjust a slider at checkout to create the mix that suits you best between cash and points. This option is available on all flights carrying a Qantas, Jetstar, or Jetstar Japan flight number, as well as on certain partner airline flights, subject to availability.
Try for a Business Class upgrade with your points
Qantas Frequent Flyer members can also use their Qantas Points to bid for a Business Class upgrade on certain eligible Jetstar flights. A great opportunity to travel in more comfort without spending an extra cent.
Book now, pay later
On certain eligible fares, you can also book your Jetstar flight now and pay the balance later: simply select the “Pay Later” option at checkout, then pay a deposit to secure your booking. (This option is not available for bookings paid with Qantas Points.) An ideal solution for locking in a great fare without waiting until you have the full budget available.

Enjoy exclusive prices by joining the Jetstar Club program
Flying regularly with Jetstar can quickly add up, between flight fares, baggage, and seat selection. That’s exactly the problem Jetstar Club aims to solve. This paid membership program lets frequent flyers of the Australian airline access discounted fares and a range of exclusive benefits, in exchange for an annual fee.
What is Jetstar Club?
Unlike traditional loyalty programs, Jetstar Club works differently. No points to patiently rack up flight after flight, no endless wait before seeing any real benefit. Here, you pay a subscription, and the discounts kick in right away.
Membership costs $65 AUD for the first year, then $55 AUD for each renewal, and automatically renews each year until cancelled by the member.
That’s actually what surprises new members the most: as soon as your membership is confirmed, the preferential rates and perks are ready to use. It’s fair to say the logic is radically different from a traditional Frequent Flyer program, where you often have to wait months, even years, to see any real payoff.
Once you’re a member, several concrete benefits apply:
Preferential fares: access to discounted prices on a selection of Starter and Business flights. These fares are easy to spot on the site, shown in purple, unlike the standard fare shown in orange.
Discounts on extras: 20% off checked baggage and seat selection.
Early access to sales: members generally get about 24 hours’ head start on major promotions and flash sales before they open to the general public, a real advantage when the best deals sell out fast.
Partner benefits: discounts with Jetstar partners, including car rental (Hertz) and spas (endota).
A Jetstar hotel voucher given upon joining, under certain conditions.
These benefits apply not only to the member, but also to up to four travel companions included in the same booking, for a total of five passengers.
