The airline Qantas has revealed that one of its third-party providers was the victim of a security breach resulting in the data leak of nearly 5.7 million customers. This is a breach which, according to Qantas, was detected on October 12 causing the leak of sensitive data, namely: Names, email addresses, telephone numbers of customers and their birthdays, etc. On the other hand, Qantas wanted to reassure its customers by confirming that no highly confidential data such as passport numbers, bank cards, passwords and other security codes were exposed. to hackers because they were simply not stored in the affected system.
Qantas has launched an investigation, working with several cybersecurity experts to determine the origins of the attack and implement new security measures to restrict access and strengthen account controls on its database.
Noting that this incident is not the first of its kind in Australia. Several similar events last year targeted transport establishments, particularly national ports.
