The Vietnamese low-cost airline VietJet is preparing to take the next step in its international expansion by entering the Australian domestic market. The airline has announced its intention to launch domestic flights from Sydney Airport to Melbourne and Brisbane, two of the country’s busiest destinations.
A Hub in Sydney to conquer Australia:
To bring this ambitious project to fruition, VietJet plans to station five aircraft permanently at Sydney-Kingsford Smith Airport.
However, while the project appears to be well underway, it remains contingent on obtaining flight slots from Australian authorities. According to a spokesperson for Brisbane Airport, Vietjet is now just waiting for the green light from the Australian government to finalize its flight schedule.
More affordable domestic travel for australians:
The arrival of a new low-cost carrier in the Australian domestic market could bring a welcome wave of competition for Australian passengers.
Note that VietJet is no stranger to Australian travelers. The Vietnamese low-cost carrier already operates daily flights from Sydney and Melbourne to Ho Chi Minh City.
