VietJet Air announces its international flights from Sydney Western Airport

The Vietnamese low-cost airline VietJet Air is preparing to begin service at the brand-new Sydney West International Airport, also known as Nancy Bird Walton Airport, which is set to open to passengers in the coming months.

According to official announcements, VietJet Air’s first flight from Western Sydney Airport is scheduled for January 2027. The low-cost carrier will initially connect Ho Chi Minh City to this new airport with two weekly flights, a frequency that is set to increase to three flights per week as early as March 2027.

This route is also receiving financial support from the New South Wales government through the “Western Sydney International Take-Off Fund,” a 16 million Australian dollar initiative designed to encourage airlines to invest in this new infrastructure and strengthen the region’s international connectivity.

Notably, the group’s Thai subsidiary, Thai VietJet Air, also plans to begin service at the airport with a Bangkok-Western Sydney route, operating four weekly flights starting in November 2027, subject to the necessary regulatory approvals.

An aircraft designed for long-haul flights

To operate this new intercontinental route, VietJet Air will deploy its Airbus A330-300, the only wide-body aircraft currently operated by the airline on its long-haul routes.

This aircraft has a total capacity of 377 seats, divided into two cabins:

– Business Class (SkyBoss Business): 12 reclining seats arranged in a 2-2-2 configuration, offering more space, a more refined meal service and priority access.

– Economy Class: 365 seats in a 3-3-3 configuration, designed for comfort on long-haul flights, with ambient lighting and standard Airbus-sized seats, which are wider than those on single-aisle aircraft.

A fifth destination for VietJet Air:

The launch of service to Sydney West Airport makes this hub the fifth Australian destination served by VietJet Air, alongside: Sydney (Kingsford Smith Airport), Melbourne, Brisbane, Adelaide and Perth.

An expansion that benefits the vietnamese diaspora:

The launch of this route is significant: Western Sydney is home to more than half of Greater Sydney’s Vietnamese population, over 70,000 people, who regularly travel back and forth to visit their families. In 2025, more than 500,000 travelers traveled between New South Wales and Vietnam, a figure that illustrates the growing appeal of this destination for Australians and vice versa.

With this new route, travelers will also be able to enjoy easier access thanks to the new M12 highway, which directly connects the new airport to the road network, as well as access to more than 40 domestic and international connecting flights once they arrive in Ho Chi Minh City.
