Virgin Australia receives its first Embraer E190-E2

Virgin Australia has just taken delivery of its first Embraer E190-E2. This is the first of a total of eight aircraft ordered by the Brazilian aircraft manufacturer, estimated at $300 million.

Three more of this model are expected to join its fleet over the next year.

“Our new aircraft allows us to gain operational flexibility, adapt our capacity to demand, and increase our frequencies, thus improving connectivity. These aircraft will seat 100 passengers in Embraer’s comfortable two-by-two configuration and will support Virgin Australia’s growth on high-density and emerging regional routes,” Virgin Australia announced in a statement.

The E195-E2s are the most fuel-efficient single-aisle aircraft currently in service, with fuel consumption per seat 29% lower than previous-generation aircraft.

Virgin Australia operates a fleet of 105 aircraft, mainly supplied by the American aircraft manufacturer Boeing, namely: 78 B737-800s, 10 B737-8s, 9 B737-700s, 5 Airbus A320s, 3 Fokker 100s and Embraer E190-E2s.
