Vietnam Airlines celebrates 35th anniversary in Australia

Vietnam Airlines celebrated 35 years of service between Vietnam and Australia on August 10th. The ceremony, held on the sidelines of the State Visit of General Secretary and President Tô Lâm to Australia, marked the symbolic milestone of the 35,000th flight operated on this route and the 7.5 millionth passenger carried since the route opened more than three decades ago.

The Vietnamese airline describes this market as one of the most dynamic in its international network. In the first half of 2026 alone, more than 809,000 passengers traveled between Vietnam and Australia.

The Chairman of the Board of Directors of Vietnam Airlines, Đặng Ngọc Hòa, took the opportunity to reiterate that air connectivity is a strategic driver for trade, investment, and tourism between the two countries, and confirmed: “The carrier’s commitment to continuing to strengthen its offering and service quality to this destination. On this occasion, several cooperation agreements were also signed with industry stakeholders, including Trip.com Group, RMIT University, and Flight Centre Travel Group, focusing on tourism promotion and developing travel flows between the two markets.”

A constantly expanding network

Vietnam Airlines currently serves Australia from its two main hubs, Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City, to three Australian cities: Sydney, Melbourne, and Perth. In total, the company operates 25 round-trip flights each week on this route, exclusively with long-haul wide-body aircraft such as the Airbus A350-900 and Boeing 787 Dreamliner.

Promotional fares to mark the occasion

To celebrate this anniversary and boost demand on the Vietnam-Australia route, Vietnam Airlines regularly offers fare promotions from Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City to Australia, with fares starting from Economy Class “Saver” and extending to Business Class. For example, the airline’s recently published fare schedules have shown promotional Business Class tickets starting from approximately VND 66.3 million round-trip.
